It’s the end where I begin

Maybe you’ll recognize the song where my title came from. Yes, it’s the end where I begin, because every beginning is something else’s end. Sorry for the long post but this is my story.

Last Friday, June 23, 2017, a chapter of my life ended. I graduated from my Masters degree program. Yey! As I attended the morning meeting with my family, classmates and mentors/ tormentors, I remembered the past three and a half years of adventures and roadblocks I have come to surpass. This is it! Another chance to show people that everyone can actually achieve their dreams.

Naturally, I wouldn’t have done this alone. My family has always been there for me, letting me live the life I wanted to have. They did not judge me, or demand from me, as I was taking the journey towards achieving greater knowledge. As supportive as my family was, there were inescapable losses that accompanied the elation I was feeling. Let me tell you now a story of a simpleton who braved her way through rough waters for the love of achieving her dream.

It all started in 2013, when one of my co-workers in the manufacturing firm I was working at enticed me to apply for the Masters of Management (MM) program. I have been fantasizing for quite a while back then how I can pursue a higher degree, since I have been involved in business development where I have no background or proper experience. I’m a Biochemist after all. I talk to chemicals, glassware and laboratory equipment. I am not used to talking with humans, let alone planning for the operations of a manufacturing company. I was browsing through several graduate degree programs when my friend asked me to attend the MM Summer Program.

And so it all began. I was astounded as to the breadth and depth of knowledge I have never known before. I admit to being a sapiosexual. I love learning through reading and watching documentaries. I rarely talk to humans to gain their insight. And that is what I wanted to improve in myself. The Summer Program lasted about 2 months. Me and my friend had to leave work every Saturday at 6AM to attend the 8AM program. The learnings and exercises we did is the very tip of a very wide and deep iceberg, which is what we were about to experience after the Summer Program. Sadly, my friend did not pursue the formal classes since she had to move to the US. I felt like I was alone back then, but since I loved being alone, I didn’t mind.

Classes for the first 2 1/2 years was every Saturday. I had to forgo of my work schedule every Saturday and ask for a compressed schedule every Monday to Friday to compensate for the hours I will not be able to attend work. Every Saturday, I had to leave at 6AM to come at 8AM at school. Then classes would end at 5PM. After class activities sometimes go on as late as 9PM, of which I reach my rented home at 11PM. Sundays were spent watching Youtube videos of how financial statements work, how to solve that management case, creating marketing plans, knowing how to handle human behavior conflicts in the workplace, calculating how many counters must a bank have to accommodate all customers, scheduling production personnel, planning shipment deliveries and stock management, reading up on the latest world news, and digging up historical data on companies for the basis of a management decision.

The hardest part came to me when I was in my 3rd year. I had to quit my job altogether, and take up a teaching job at a university. My manufacturing job asked me to be a consultant two days a week in San Pedro Laguna, while I was working as a part-time Instructor at a University in Malabon, Metro Manila three days a week. It was a 3 hour ride from manufacturing to teaching…which I endured for 3 months. I had to eventually give up my manufacturing job and focus on teaching due to the distance. After 3 months, I also had to give up my teaching load due to the workload at school. I went jobless, tired and broke from too much work. I never thought for once that I would be jobless ever. So there…I was just a student for a month.

Come January 2016, a former colleague offered me a part time job as a Chemist for her chemical importation business. Coincidentally, my class was every Friday night and Saturday morning. My new boss agreed to a two-day work week for me. Isn’t she the greatest? So my strategy was, work from Monday to Thursday (I had another part-time job every Wednesday and Friday), school every Friday and Saturday.

I had to leave my house in QC at around 9AM every Friday. I arrive at school around 3PM, class starts at 4 and ends at 7. I arrive at my friend’s boarding house around 9 to 10PM. The following day I leave at 6AM and arrive at school by 8AM. Class again from 8 to 10. Then I go back to QC. This routine passed on for 6 months. It was excruciatingly tiresome, sometimes unbearable for me. But I endured…with the help of the people who chose to stay with me I made it. Some people chose to leave, but I thank them still for coming along.

Now it’s the end of the 6 hour rides for that 3 hour class. The end of sleeping on the bus to stay awake all night. It’s the start of another chapter, one I did not see coming. As my professor always said, the lessons are not supposed to be applicable at all times, but all the time we can look back to the life lessons we learned inside and outside the classroom and pick one to apply to the situation we are in at the ¬†moment. It’s like a tool box. You don’t use all the tools at the same time. But anytime, you can choose which tool to use to make your situation work. Everyone can achieve their dreams if you can end something for a new beginning.

AVON ideal white essence foundation SPF50/PA+++

It is past midnight here in the Philippines, and everybody’s sleeping except for me. I am due to go to work on Saturday, so my boss exchanged my work off tomorrow, because my boss is awesome like that ūüėĄ

I have been addicted to foundations right now mainly because of Rhayzelof Youtube. While she does vlogs about all kinds of make-ups, I prefer to write mine down. Here we go on our review for AVON’s new foundation.

1. Packaging : The product comes in a glass bottle with pump on top. I like how it made the product appear premium and feel top of the line when you start handling the product. We all know AVON produce affordable products, but this one really has an air of luxury in it.

2. Product: The product looks like your typical foundation or BB cream. It has a thick consistency that is not runny when applied at the back of the hand. Because of this texture it does not drip off and makes it easier to apply on the face and neck.

3. Ingredients: From the individual box housing the glass bottle, here are the ingredients

water, homosalate, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, titanium dioxide, propanediol, butyloctyl salicylate, benzophenone-3, cyclopentasiloxane, silica, dimethicone, dilauryl thiodipropionate, octocrylene, ceteareth-20, glycerin, peg-8 octyldodecanol, c30-45 alkyl cetearyl dimethicone crosspolymer, phenoxyethanol, cetyl hydroxyethylcellulose, hydrogenated lecithin, stearoxytrimethylsilane, ceteth-2,kaolin, stearyl alcohol, caprylyl glycol, hydroxyethyl acrylate/ sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, disodium edta, ethylene brassylate, isohexadecane, polymethyl methacrylate, nylon-12, polysorbate-60, ascorbyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate, yeast extract/ extrait de levure, glutathione, butylene glycol, fragaria chiloensis (strawberry) fruit juice, ascorbyl glucoside, perilla ocymoides leaf extract, colorants

Nothing extra ordinary here.

4. Performance: Here’a series of photos showcasing the actual performace of the product

Photo at the top left is my bare face at 5am. I applied the foundation using my Ever Bilena retractable brush. I must say I was shocked because the coverage is very very sheer and very shiny. I was disappointed in the beginning because I thought it would be an oily kind of foundation. And since it claimed to be a foundation, I expected full coverage, not a BB cream type of coverage.

As you can see from the bottom left photo, my skin was a bit oilier and darker than the bare faced one. I was really ready to crush this product UNTIL I applied my loose powder to set the look. After application, my skin looked flawless! It felt a little sticky but this was later replaced by a powdery finish. I was quite delighted that this foundation made my concealer glide over smoothly. So off to work I go.

After just half of my day, the powdery flawless look I got at home disappeared into a very dry, lackluster barefaced one. So disappointed in this product. ūü§Ēūüėźūüėí

5. Overall rating: 5/10

I haven’t tried building up this foundation’s coverage, but I am pretty displeased by the initial performance. Good thing about it is that it gives a flawless look for a couple of hours. It may be good for dry skinned people, but it definitely did not work for me. It’s just likea tinted primer for me, and after this one bottle I may not repurchase. But who knows, it might work for you.

San San WW Cream

So I went rush shopping for a BB cream for our Christmas Party last December 23. As I got off the MRT station at Centris , I passed by HBC. I’ve been a fan of the store’s products for a very long time now, but I haven’t visited for quite a while because of my crazy schedule. I haven’t even got the time to check that I don’t have BB cream anymore!

I immediately went inside the store and rushed over the section where all face paints are displayed.I was about to pick up my favorite BB cream when I saw this:

I have heard of the AA, BB, CC, DD, EE, FF and even GG creams. But not a WW. I chose this one without trying if it will match my skin color, which was a very compulsive move I realized the moment I already paid for it. And I never had the chance to try it on until on the day of the party. It looked good on me so I thought of reviewing its actual performance. Here’s the blow by blow review:

  1. Packaging: I am a fan of HBC’s concept of a tube with a spout. It really makes their BB creams very easy to dispense, and hygienic for long term use. The product comes in a 30 ml tube, good for 15 days for me.
  2.  Product: The contents looks like your regular BB cream. It comes in just one shade that (thankfully) blended with my skin tone. It also has a scent that is not too overpowering.15785373_10154515183554934_1183213344_o
  3. Claims: “A multi-benefit Whitening and Wrinkle Control Cream that evens out skin tone as it nourishes and protects skin from harmful UV rays and free radicals. It also provides a natural looking coverage suited to your skin tone, for a smooth and flawless looking finish. This cosmetic product with dermatological benefits is formulated with Arbutin, Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid to provide whitening, wrinkle control and moisture for a healthier skin.”

Arbutin, Collagen and Hyaluronic acid are generally regarded as safe since the beginning of time. And they have proven efficacy in creams and lotions. To claim though that this product has dermatological benefits is over the top for me. Cosmetics can never have medicinal claims, so the whitening, wrinkle control and moisturizing effect of this product will only last as long as you are using it. No permanent effect should be expected. Dermatologists are Dermatologists, and WW creams are not likely to provide the same effect really.

4. Price: At P220.00, this is one very affordable product. Five starts for it!

5. Performance: Upon application of the product on the skin, I love the cooling sensation it gives. As for the coverage, I am not satisfied with it. I still had to apply a more if I want to build coverage. For the moisturizing claim, I can say yes to this since my skin looked amazing after setting it with Maybelline pressed powder. The whitening and wrinkle control I still have to test.

As you can see, after 1 layer of the product my skin looked a little bit smoother, but there is almost no coverage. It will be a good make-up base though, since it made my concealer glide smoothly over my undereyes. It brighten up my face but no coverage at all. Also, I felt my skin was moisturized, which makes this a tinted moisturizer too.

So I left for work, and two hours later took another photo at the office. As you can see my skin looked amazing under natural light. My nose was a bit oiled up here, but overall I am loving the effect. After the ruckus filled train ride my skin still managed to look like I just got out of my car.

After 12 hours of being a diligent employee, I took another photo. Sadly, there seems to be no more of the fresh-faced look, which was replaced by a “just woke up” one. Had to retouch to get back on track for the night’s event. I had to meet with le boyfriend after work so I has to redo everything.

Overall, I can say that San San WW Cream is a make-up base and tinted moisturizer with cooling effect and long term benefits of skin whitening, wrinkle control and moisturizing. I wasn’t able to keep the ingredients since it was printed on the shrink wrap surrounding the cap, which I tore out. Best used under foundation for a smoother glide. This might even help in the minimalization of streaks caused by make-up brushes and beauty blenders. Speaking of blenders, I might do a review of HBC’s Beauty Blender soon, maybe after the holidays. Happy New Year everyone!

Blushing Belle c/o Opulence

How have you been my loves! I just finished trying one Glutathione capsule product given to me by my friend at Opulence Skin Philippines. Here’s me blabbering about this experience.

I have always been skeptic when it comes to trying products that I have to ingest, like food supplements, vitamins and even medicine. I’d rather lay down and let myself heal on its own than take in anything¬†that is not a natural part of my inner ecosystem. While other are going crazy about slimming pills, glutathione injections and capsules, I just soak my skin in tons of lotions and creams that can help lighten up my complexion.

But one friend of mine convinced me to try one of their products. I tried this for 30 days, and here’s what I think about it.

1. Packaging

The product comes in a generic wide-mouthed, opaque white medicine bottle. The light blue and white combination of the label exudes a feeling same as¬†looking at the clouds. I would’ve preferred a pink-and-white combination though.

2. Directions:

Since I’m new to this, my friend advised me to take one capsule before sleeping for 2 weeks. On the 3rd week, I was instructed to take one capsule after breakfast and another one before sleeping.

3. Contents of the capsule

Glutathione – in the reduced state, this is a known water-soluble antioxidant and free-radical scanvenger. Please bear in mind that Glutathione’s main function is detoxification of the cells, which has skin lightening side effects.

Vitamin C Рincreases R-glutathione in red blood cells and improves overall antioxidant protection capacity of blood.

N-acetylcysteine – boosts Glutathione antioxidant activity, promoted detoxification and acts directly as free-radical scavenger.

Vitamin E Рhelps in the reduction of lipid peroxidation. Again, an antioxidant.

Alpha Lipoic Acid –¬†scavenges free radicals, chelates metals, and restores intracellular glutathione levels which otherwise decline with age

Selenomethionine – increases glutathione peroxidase activity

4. Review

Due to the quasi-medicinal nature of the ingredients listed above, I have linked each of them to scientific journals you can refer to in case you want to learn about how these ingredients interact with each other.

Basically, Glutathione is the central ingredient here, with all the other components aimed at increasing the reduced Glutathione concentration in the blood, or increasing the glutatthione peroxidase activity. It is very important that Glutathione is in the reduced state – meaning it needs to be oxidized. For the benefit of everybody, let me explain this process to you.

In any environment, a pair of reactions occur simultaneously all the time: Oxidation and Reduction. One cannot occur without the other. Imagine you are carrying a very heavy bag containing 10 basketballs. Your normal capacity for carrying basketballs is only 9. Another friend, who is walking with you carries a bag with only 8¬†basketballs. His full capacity is up to 10. Because you are having difficulty carrying all 10 basketballs, you decided to give him one. So you now carry 9 basketballs, while your friend now has 9. You, with 10 basketballs, is in the oxidized state. While your friend, with only 8 basketballs is in the reduced state. One you transfer one basketball, you become reduced, while your friend becomes oxidized. It’s not this simple, but you know what I mean ūüôā

This is the  case with our cells. Free radicals in our cells target to oxidize other cells. to prevent this, antioxidants like Glutathione and Vitamin E interact with the free radicals, ultimately reducing the cells, while having themselves oxidized.

On the first night that I took one capsule, I had to sleep late due to the tons of errands I had to do. Surprisingly, I woke up the next day, with just 5 hours of sleep, feeling like I slept a whole 10 hours. This feeling of freshness lasted up until today. I always wake up like I did nothing the past day.

After 14 days of taking this capsule, I contracted flu. Normally, when I have the flu, you’d find me struggling to stay alive lying on my bed. But this time it’s different. I feel sick, little muscle pains and slight fever. But I can still go to work, exercise and do stuff. I’m wondering if the capsule I’m taking is helping in fighting the ¬†flu.I got well after just three days of feeling sick.

After 30 days, here’s how it worked for me

I’m not sure if it’s visible here, but my cheeks and lips are more pinkish. My skin overall is less oily, with increased visible smoothness. I would definitely purchase another bottle of this.

AGAIN! I’m reiterating that Glutathione and all other ingredients included in this capsule are intended for antioxidant and detoxification of the cells, with side effects of skin lightening. Always consult a medical professional before taking any supplements, especially if you are under-aged, pregnant, or have existing medical conditions.

Lux White Impress Whitening Body Wash

Happy March! Since this is my birth month, I will be reviewing my personal care travel essentials. As a frequent traveler, I make it a point to have everything that I need in the bathroom wherever I go. Inter-region locations of my work, school and home require me to be very keen on the products that I use on my ME time.

At our home, I like using bar soaps, especially the Kojic acid infused ones. But whenever I travel, I make sure I have a small bottle of liquid body wash stashed inside my kikay kit.

I recently tried Lux White Impress Whitening Body Wash. The label claims it has Whitelight Technology for visibly fairer skin. Let’s dice it up a bit.

  1. Packaging

The product I bought comes in a 100 ml pearlized white snap-top bottle. Problem I encountered here is after a month of using the product, the snap top cap gets plugged with thickened bulk product, making it hard to squeeze.

2. Fragrance

This particular product boasted about being bathed in perfume in its television advertisements. So when I used it for the first time, I was expecting a lot. But the fragrance was a light floral scent, okay for me, but did not meet my expectations. I was expecting a very very perfumed liquid. But come to think of it, this product may be much safe and has less allergens than one that is too fragrant.

3. Product

When poured out of the bottle into my sponge, the product is a creamy white viscous liquid. When applied to wet skin, the foam and lather are quite normal, nothing too special about it. When I rinse it with water, my skin does not feel soft or slippery, it’s just plain wet skin.

4. Price

I can’t remember the price but I think it around P50 – P60.

5. Ingredients

Water, Myristic Acid, Lauric Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Acrylates Copolymer, Palmitic Acid, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Perfume, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Titanium Dioxide, Glycerin, BHT, Tetrasodium EDTA, Etidronic Acid, Microcrystalline Wax, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Stearic Acid, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Niacinamide, Methylisothiazolinone, Gelatin, Acacia Senegal Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Mica, Silica, Xanthan Gum, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Tin Oxide, CI 42090, CI 73360, CI 77491, CI 77891

Bold item (Myristic acid, Lauric acid, Potassium hydroxide, Palmitic acid, Stearic acid) indicates that this is a soap-based product, with a pH of about at 8, a basic product. Even with the addition of Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Cocamidopropyl Betaine, perceived softness of the skin was not evident when I used it.

Which makes me wonder why Sodium benzoate is used as preservative here. This is appropriate for acidic products, with pH below 5.00. Good thing other preservatives are present (Phenoxyethanol, Methylisothiazolinone).

Whitening actives here are¬†Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C)¬†and¬†Niacinamide (Vitamin B3). Lots of fillers and “skin pearlizing” ingredients are incorporated here, including Microcrystalline wax, Mica, Tin Oxide and¬†CI 42090, CI 73360, CI 77491, CI 77891. I’ve been this product for 2 months now, but no perceived whitening is evident in my skin.

6. Overall rating: 2/5

Per se, the product is a good body wash. It gets the job done, cleaning and perfuming my skin. But it did not meet my expectations, and its marketing claims.

Beauty Fix Peel-Off Mask Oil Control and Detoxify

Kung Hei fat Choi! I was preparing for an important event tomorrow, so I decided to treat myself to a mask treatment. I was actually looking for iWhite facial mask, but ended up buying something new, out of curiosity.

As a start for the Year of the Monkey, here’s another review for Beauty Fix Peel-Off Facial Mask.

  1. Packaging
¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† I got the 10 gram sachet from Watson’s. the package looks like thisP_20151219_141550.jpg
It has an easy open slit at the right bottom side. The package is quite intriguing, since I was used to using iWhite, which is white in color. But for this one, the product is black. My skeptical side was piqued. I had to try this one!
2. Fragrance
Upon opening the package, the product smells light. When applied on the skin, it is not overpowering and is fit for a product that will stay for a while on your face.
3. Product
¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† As expected, the product is colored a deep¬†black. It is a viscous cream that feels cool on the skin. It spreads evenly on my skin. But as expected too, it leaves a lot of product on my hands and on the sachet. But the amount I got out of the package is sufficient in covering my whole face with a considerable thickness for easy peeling later on. Here’s how it looked on me
4. Ingredients
Here’s the ingredient list as stated at the package’s back side
Water, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Pectin, Glycoproteins, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Apple Extract, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Titanium Dioxide, Bisabolol, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Charcoal Powder, DMDM Hydantoin, Parfum
The manufacturer was not indicated in the sachet. The ingredients are generally accepted as safe for cosmetic use.
Charcoal powder is what gives this product the deep black color. The package claims that it controls oil and detoxifies. Charcoal powder does all these. Skin conditioners – glycoproteins, rice protein, apple extract and panthenol keep skin soft even after peeling. Niacinamide has oil controlling and skin brightening properties, while ascorbic acid is a known antioxidant and skin lightening agent. Click on the links for safety of the active ingredients.
5. Price
For P22.00, this product is quite affordable. I’d be keeping this in my¬†weekly skre routine from now on. Happy skin caring!

So just this year, I started being a full-time, part-time consultant. Kinda confusing but so I’ll explain myself. I used to be employed to only one manufacturing company for the last five years. Just last June, I decided to quit this 8 to 5 job and join the academe. From May to December 2015 I served as a part time lecturer while being part time consultant for the manufacturing firm I used to be involved full time. Now, as the K12 program started to proliferate, I had to quit teaching and look for consultancy jobs elsewhere. I found myself jobless for a month.

Come January, consultancy offers came. Now I am involved with three local cosmetic companies serving as product development consultant and regulatory consultant. By mid-January, I started becoming active in an international forum on cosmetic science. Here, I meet personal care enthusiasts looking for information about their various queries. I found myself transacting online with people I know I have very little chance of meeting personally. While most of them do not pursue their projects with me, there are two which I am constantly talking with until now.

I hope this kind of hobby can turn out into a dependable business one day.

Hair Miracle without the Ickyness

Hi loves! It’s been a long while since my last product review. And I so missed trying out new stuff. I was busy about my Master’s degree that I wasn’t able to look anywhere else. Now, its’ our term break, so I’ll surely fill your inboxes with reviews about the latest products from the Philippines.

Tonight, I’m writing about Pantene Pro-V 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner. It’s an intensely conditioning hair care product launched by Procter and Gamble. Here’s my bit by bit usage test results:

  1. Packaging – the product comes in a 180 ml gold tube, making it stand out in the shelves. A premium image is being projected here, since the product has a very appealing packaging, as can be seen below.

2. Fragrance – When smelled from the bottle, the fragrance is overwhelming But when applied to the hair, the fragrance stays all day, or even 2 days in my case. Fragrance retention may depend on your hair’s chemistry.

3. Application – the product contents is a translucent white cream that is not too thick or creamy. When applied to the hair, it gives a very smooth and soft feel without being too heavy. It leaves behind a volumized hair that smells good, stays soft and shiny all day.

4. Ingredients

Water, Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Stearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Fragrance, Benzyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Panthenol, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Silk Extract, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, CI19140, CI17200, CI42090

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS. Product contains five hair conditioning actives, listed below

(1) Bis-Aminopropyl DImethicone

(2) Behentrimonium Methosulfate

(3) Panthenol

(4) Panthenyl Ethyl Ether

(5) Silk extract

PRESERVATIVES are Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone. The latter is classified as a sensitizer and is currently being banned for use for leave on products. As for this product, since this is a wash-off type, it is safe to use.

5. Overall

I would rate this product 9.5/10, since it has packed on lots of conditioners that actually work, without weighing the hair down. Panthenyl Ethyl Ether is a light silicone that has the effects of dimethicone but the lightness of cyclic methicones. Recommended for everyday use.

Genesis 2:22-24

22Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23The man said, ‚ÄúThis is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‚Äėwoman,‚Äô for she was taken out of a man. 24For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.‚ÄĚ

Don’t misunderstand me, I have nothing against the LGBT community. I have friends who are part of this sect of the society. It’s true, LGBT people can sometimes be more successful than straight people. And in today’s modern society, LGBT is a widely accepted sect, equal in almost every right to straight people.

But marriage? Here’s the thing.

I am not an active church-goer. I‚Äôm not a very righteous person. But please‚Ķ‚Ķ. I think we already gave enough rights to the LGBT. No one bats an eye anymore about same sex relationships. ¬†Marriage is for a man and a woman, for them to be united and become one flesh. For me, this implies for them to produce offspring. Children to continue their legacy. Their own flesh and blood united as one. Can same sex marriage unite to become a single person? Do they really NEED to get married? No. Can we just please reserve this one single right exclusively NOT for same sex relationships? It‚Äôs not because of the fear of my LGBT friends to get married first before me (which is something not impossible if this will be approved in the Philippines). But it‚Äôs difference between same sex and heterosexual relationships that matter. You know, there i still a thing as “too much.” Being modern does not have to be too radical minded. There are things that are old as time, that needs to stay the way they were.

Sincerely and with Lots of Love,

Beauties and the Beach

Here’s the (SUPER!) late review on the trip me and my friends had back in May. Amidst the piling school reports and final exams, I managed to sneak out for a cool four days and relax at one of the Philippines’ prime vacation spots, El Nido Palawan.

El Nido got its name from the edible birds‚Äô nest found in its caves. ¬†Ancient Chinese literature have already mentioned an island called Pa-Lao-Yu, or Island of Beautiful Harbors since 1125 CE. Because of its unprecedented beauty, some tourists named it as ‚ÄúHeaven on Earth.‚ÄĚ

We met at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 9 am, just in time for the 10 am flight. While waiting for the signal to board, we filled our stomachs with delicious arroz caldo.

At exactly 10 am, we boarded Cebu Pacific, which will take us in a 1 hour flight to Puerto Princesa Palawan (excited!)

At 11 am, we landed at Puerto Princesa airport, where we were picked up by staff from our chosen accommodation, Telesfora Beach Cottages. It was a six hour drive from Puerto Princesa to Telesfora. We had a stop-over at Halfway diner at around 2 pm for our lunch. Nothing much good to say about this diner, since I find their food a little bit too dry, and all the staff did was sort of ignore us and emphasize the ‚Äúself-service‚ÄĚ sign posted at every corner of the diner. I wonder if they treat foreign visitors the same way.

After lunch, we hit the road once again. It was a ruckus since everyone was recharged and ready for another round of fooling around. Really, sometimes, it’s not all about the ride. It’s who you’re riding with. We were 8 in the group, where me and another friend were just tag-alongs. But the six other people we are hanging out with are one of the best bunch of people I have encountered. Fun and outgoing, they didn’t mind that two strangers were meddling with their barkada’s getaway.

After another 3 hours or so, we finally reached Telesfora! Excited and tired, we threw ourselves in the cottage which will be our home for the next four days. My group searched for a place to hang out, and the locals pointed us to a bar called Pukka Bar. We rode a tricycle, and after 30 minutes, we found ourselves at the beach front, where bars were lined up, piercing through the dark waters. All nationalities seemed to be present, and my group decided to settle at the beach. It would have been a great night if not only the bar told us they ran out of beer, and served us with cola rum instead. In utter disappointment, my group went back to the cottage instead and decided to purchase something we could drink at home. So we got Jose Cuervo tequila. This is the first time I will taste this kind of tequila, and it became our ultimate favorite.

Days 2-3

Without any signs of hangover from last night’s ruckus, my group woke up to delicious breakfast courtesy of Telesfora. Then, we are off to our destinations! Let the photos speak for themselves. (Phot credits go to April Catelo)
