potpourri

Beautifully diversified.

So just this year, I started being a full-time, part-time consultant. Kinda confusing but so I’ll explain myself. I used to be employed to only one manufacturing company for the last five years. Just last June, I decided to quit this 8 to 5 job and join the academe. From May to December 2015 I served as a part time lecturer while being part time consultant for the manufacturing firm I used to be involved full time. Now, as the K12 program started to proliferate, I had to quit teaching and look for consultancy jobs elsewhere. I found myself jobless for a month.

Come January, consultancy offers came. Now I am involved with three local cosmetic companies serving as product development consultant and regulatory consultant. By mid-January, I started becoming active in an international forum on cosmetic science. Here, I meet personal care enthusiasts looking for information about their various queries. I found myself transacting online with people I know I have very little chance of meeting personally. While most of them do not pursue their projects with me, there are two which I am constantly talking with until now.

I hope this kind of hobby can turn out into a dependable business one day.

Hair Miracle without the Ickyness

Hi loves! It’s been a long while since my last product review. And I so missed trying out new stuff. I was busy about my Master’s degree that I wasn’t able to look anywhere else. Now, its’ our term break, so I’ll surely fill your inboxes with reviews about the latest products from the Philippines.

Tonight, I’m writing about Pantene Pro-V 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner. It’s an intensely conditioning hair care product launched by Procter and Gamble. Here’s my bit by bit usage test results:

  1. Packaging – the product comes in a 180 ml gold tube, making it stand out in the shelves. A premium image is being projected here, since the product has a very appealing packaging, as can be seen below.

P_20151214_205240

2. Fragrance – When smelled from the bottle, the fragrance is overwhelming But when applied to the hair, the fragrance stays all day, or even 2 days in my case. Fragrance retention may depend on your hair’s chemistry.

3. Application – the product contents is a translucent white cream that is not too thick or creamy. When applied to the hair, it gives a very smooth and soft feel without being too heavy. It leaves behind a volumized hair that smells good, stays soft and shiny all day.

4. Ingredients

Water, Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Stearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Fragrance, Benzyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Panthenol, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Silk Extract, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, CI19140, CI17200, CI42090

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS. Product contains five hair conditioning actives, listed below

(1) Bis-Aminopropyl DImethicone

(2) Behentrimonium Methosulfate

(3) Panthenol

(4) Panthenyl Ethyl Ether

(5) Silk extract

PRESERVATIVES are Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone. The latter is classified as a sensitizer and is currently being banned for use for leave on products. As for this product, since this is a wash-off type, it is safe to use.

5. Overall

I would rate this product 9.5/10, since it has packed on lots of conditioners that actually work, without weighing the hair down. Panthenyl Ethyl Ether is a light silicone that has the effects of dimethicone but the lightness of cyclic methicones. Recommended for everyday use.

Beauties and the Beach

Here’s the (SUPER!) late review on the trip me and my friends had back in May. Amidst the piling school reports and final exams, I managed to sneak out for a cool four days and relax at one of the Philippines’ prime vacation spots, El Nido Palawan.

El Nido got its name from the edible birds’ nest found in its caves.  Ancient Chinese literature have already mentioned an island called Pa-Lao-Yu, or Island of Beautiful Harbors since 1125 CE. Because of its unprecedented beauty, some tourists named it as “Heaven on Earth.”

Day1

We met at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 9 am, just in time for the 10 am flight. While waiting for the signal to board, we filled our stomachs with delicious arroz caldo.

At exactly 10 am, we boarded Cebu Pacific, which will take us in a 1 hour flight to Puerto Princesa Palawan (excited!)

At 11 am, we landed at Puerto Princesa airport, where we were picked up by staff from our chosen accommodation, Telesfora Beach Cottages. It was a six hour drive from Puerto Princesa to Telesfora. We had a stop-over at Halfway diner at around 2 pm for our lunch. Nothing much good to say about this diner, since I find their food a little bit too dry, and all the staff did was sort of ignore us and emphasize the “self-service” sign posted at every corner of the diner. I wonder if they treat foreign visitors the same way.

After lunch, we hit the road once again. It was a ruckus since everyone was recharged and ready for another round of fooling around. Really, sometimes, it’s not all about the ride. It’s who you’re riding with. We were 8 in the group, where me and another friend were just tag-alongs. But the six other people we are hanging out with are one of the best bunch of people I have encountered. Fun and outgoing, they didn’t mind that two strangers were meddling with their barkada’s getaway.

After another 3 hours or so, we finally reached Telesfora! Excited and tired, we threw ourselves in the cottage which will be our home for the next four days. My group searched for a place to hang out, and the locals pointed us to a bar called Pukka Bar. We rode a tricycle, and after 30 minutes, we found ourselves at the beach front, where bars were lined up, piercing through the dark waters. All nationalities seemed to be present, and my group decided to settle at the beach. It would have been a great night if not only the bar told us they ran out of beer, and served us with cola rum instead. In utter disappointment, my group went back to the cottage instead and decided to purchase something we could drink at home. So we got Jose Cuervo tequila. This is the first time I will taste this kind of tequila, and it became our ultimate favorite.

Days 2-3

Without any signs of hangover from last night’s ruckus, my group woke up to delicious breakfast courtesy of Telesfora. Then, we are off to our destinations! Let the photos speak for themselves. (Phot credits go to April Catelo)

Because of this getaway, I vowed to visit the Philippines’ most scenic spots at least twice a year.

It really is more fun in the Philippines!

When should you reformulate your cosmetic product?

When should you reformulate your cosmetic product?.

A very good article to ponder on.

Another intelligent insight about this issue. It goes without saying, this incident must not be blamed on the university alone. People who rant about how greedy the system is, think again. You owe your current lifestyle to this system. And you never really knew Krystel in the first place.

What makes you beautiful

It has been well established that every person is unique. No two individuals are the same, even if they’re twins. But when you come to think about it, everybody has one basic thing in common. Everyone gets scared some times.

Many people view me as a snob. Someone so self-centered that I can’t care less when is somebody’s birthday. I guess I have learned to keep a few very important people around me. I may know a lot of people, but very few know me. I’m not very sure if that’s a good thing though…

Everybody gets scared some times. But I feel like I’ve been too scared for too long.

Everybody fights every single second of their lives to be free from the things that scare them, and cover this with their unique inner beauty.

Everybody talks. But not everyone’s listening, or is even worth listening to.

Everybody has the equal chance to hurt you. But not everyone is worth it.

Everybody looks at everyone. But very few sees YOU.

Everybody likes to be with anybody. But somebody deserves the best of you.

I’m going to turn silver this year. I would like to make a vow with myself, starting from this day, to be  less scared of life. I may not be the most jolly or approachable person, but I sure am one of the happiest. I’ll go and find my inner beauty and shine it over my flaws.

I may not be the perfect person. But I love my life. YOU:)

A Christmas gift

Just got my hands on theingenious creation of the late Steve Jobs, the IpaD 2. At first, I was about to buy Asus Eee Transformer, but one salesman from the store (let’s call him Ivan) convinced me of the great benefits that the iPad can offer. So I gave in, and I’ll probably try this for a couple of days and see if this little thing can live up to it’s name. Hehehe…will be back for more;)

Thai capital named ‘World’s Best City’ – yahoo news

My boss Sir Jules once told me that if I plan to travel someday, I must start with Bangkok, Thailand, coz this is his favorite travel spot. And here it is, proven, that Bangkok is indeed the best city for tourists.

http://ph.news.yahoo.com/thai-capital-named-worlds-best-city-161002512.html

Hope one day I’ll finally be able to give myself a break and visit this city, and all others in the list. But instead of Bangkok, I might as well start with our very own Boracay. See? It got the number 4 spot on the best islands! And it’s the only Philippine territory that made it to the list. (People from Boracay, won’t you invite me over?hehe)

Support for Sara Duterte spreading through text | ABS-CBN News | Latest Philippine Headlines, Breaking News, Video, Analysis, Features.

This is today’s hottest issue.

Ano masasabi mo tungkol dito?

Though I don’t really know who Duterte is, I just think that her actions are far from what a mayor should have done. Kung may  hindi siya nagustuhan sa ginawa ng Sheriff, she could have just called his attention and talked privately. Or if talagang ganyan siya at mahilig manakit, sana privately pa rin, Nobody has to be shamed kahit ano pa nag dahilan.

“A sheriff is in principle a legal official with responsibility for a county. In practice, the specific combination of legal, political, and ceremonial duties of a sheriff varies greatly from country to country. ” (wikipedia)

“…an important official of a shire or county charged primarily with judicial duties (as executing the processes and orders of courts and judges)” (merriam-webster)

SHeriffs are supposed to implement peace and order, as per the law of the specific provunce, in the Philippines’ case. How can the Sheriff be respected kung pati Mayor binabastos lang siya ng ganun ganun na lang? Respetuhan lang.

Kiss the Rain:)

When was the last time you soaked up?

Kiss The Rain – By Billie Myers

Hello
Can you hear me?
Am I gettin’ through to you?
Hello
Is it late there?
There’s a laughter on the line
Are you sure you’re there alone?
Cause I’m
Tryin’ to explain
Somethin’s wrong
Ya just don’t sound the same
Why don’t you
Why don’t you
Go outside
Go outside
Kiss the rain
Whenever you need me
Kiss the rain
Whenever I’m gone, too long.
If your lips
Feel lonely and thirsty
Kiss the rain
And wait for the dawn.
Keep in mind
We’re under the same sky
And the nights
As empty for me, as for you
If ya feel
You can’t wait till morinin’
Kiss the rain
Kiss the rain
Kiss the rain
Hello
Do you miss me?
I hear you say you do
But not the way I’m missin’ you
What’s new?
How’s the weather?
Is it stormy where you are?
Cause you sound so close but it feels like you’re so far
Oh would it mean anything
If you knew
What I’m left imagining
In my mind
In my mind
Would you go
Would you go
Kiss the rain
And you’d fall over me
Think of me
Think of me
Think of me
Only me
Kiss the rain
Whenever you need me
Kiss the rain
Whenever I’m gone too long
If your lips
Feel hungry and tempted
Kiss the rain
and wait for the dawn
Keep in mind
We’re under the same skies
And the nights
As empty for me, as for you
If you feel
You can’t wait till morning
Kiss the rain (repeat 4X)
Oooooohhhhh
Kiss the rain
Oooooohhhhh
Kiss the rain
Hello
Can ya hear me?
Can ya hear me?
Can ya hear me?

It takes a big splash for someone to slow down and listen to what’s happening outside.

I admit, I am workaholic. I used to spend 18 hours a day at the office. But however busy I become, when I hear raindrops fall on the roof of our facility, I stop, listen, then ask my officemates “Umuulan?” As obvious as it is, my officemates would answer me “OO, May payong ka?” When was the last time you took a bath in the rain? Me? I cannot remember. It seemed like I was still in elementary when I last soaked up. How I loved the rain. Me and my friends would run around the streets with our shoes off. We’ll make paper boats and let them sail in the muddy waters. I always felt like the rain is my friend.

Like today, I’ve been drowning in paperwork. I barely talked to any person except for myself since I timed in. But when I heared the loud thumpin’ of the rain on my office window, I suddenly had to stop and listen. It relaxed my mind, and listening to the rhytmic thump thump makes my heartbeat slow down.

Yesterday, my boyfriend gave me his father’s spare sphygmomanometer. He also taught me how to get my blood pressure. At first when I cannot hear the supposed thudding of his blood vessesl, that signals his blodd pressure reading, he put the stethoscope’s earpiece on top of his left chest, right on his heart. He made me listen to it, only then have I realized he’s actually making my ears accustomed to the sound of blood flowing through his veins. It was amazing, the sound of a heartbeat. After I finally learned how to measure his blood pressure, it rained. That was one of the best days of my life.
